Steel Pan Residency at PrHS

This week at Proctor Jr./Sr. High School, students have the opportunity to learn a new instrument: steel pans. Jennifer Cohen is heading the residency, teaching students not only how to play the pans, but also the culture and history behind the instrument. While each lesson is a little different, they are structured in a way where students can learn and be hands on. Starting the lesson with a listening activity, students usually have to guess what song Jennifer is playing on the pans. Then students get right into it, practicing measures and notes before putting the song all together as a group. Other classes also have the opportunity to join or watch. At the end of the week, students will record their own performance to show friends and families. It is a great opportunity to learn something new and take on a challenge. Thank you Jennifer, and great work students!
